How to choose wallpaper glue

Buying high-quality wall finishes is not enough for the coating to look organic on walls and last long. The wallpaper's durability is determined by the method it is glued and the correct choice of the adhesive composition. Wallpaper glue should correspond to the type of wallpaper base.
Types of glue for wallpaper
The adhesive for the wallpaper can be divided into two large groups:
1. Universal adhesives
This type is suitable for all kinds of wallpaper. Nevertheless, it is better to use these adhesives for paper canvases and low-weight wallpaper.
2. Special adhesive formulations
They are developed considering the technical characteristics of the wallpaper bases and materials. Get acquainted with the following specific adhesive formulations:
• For a paper base;
• For non-woven and vinyl wallpaper;
• For glass wallpaper;
• For heavy wallpaper.
Be careful! If you are trying to save money on materials and to get cheap glue based on the positive experience of friends, you might choose the wrong way. The fact is that the incorrect choice of adhesive does not necessarily show up immediately. You may even be satisfied with the result, but it won't last long. Deformations of the wallpaper on the wall or peeling off at the edges may appear after a few days or weeks.
The choice of glue depending on the wallpaper type
The backing of the wallpaper is the part that encounters the adhesive. It is for this reason that you should pay close attention to it when choosing an adhesive and make sure that it matches it.
Take a look at the package before buying it, read the characteristics and recommendations for use.
• Universal adhesives are suitable for paper wallpaper. These are often powdery, odorless substances with a whitish tint. After preparing, they remain usable for seven days, provided they are stored in a closed container.
• Non-woven wallpaper has heavy canvases. Only a special glue for non-woven wallpaper can reliably hold it on the wall. This type contains fungicidal additives and specific substances that do not separate the wallpaper sheet during subsequent repairs. It is necessary to cover only the wall surface with glue without applying it to the canvas.
• Vinyl and fabric wallpapers are considered premium types. There were developed specific adhesives for gluing its wallpaper type. They usually contain an antifungal additive. The glue is easy to prepare, as it does not form lumps. It allows the canvas to slide along the wall for joining, to dry quickly, and to form a transparent film between the wall and the wallpaper. Despite the similar characteristics with glue for non-woven wallpaper, you should not interchange them, as this can lead to the formation of air bubbles under the sheets.
• Fiberglass wallpaper is fire resistant and can withstand up to 10 paints. A specialized high-strength glue on a dispersed basis is used while gluing.
For the wallpaper to look good on the walls even decades after gluing, take into account the peculiarities of preparing the glue, which will be written in the instructions!
